Regional Weather Update: Heavy Rains Predicted Across Maharashtra, Gujarat, MP, and Chhattisgarh
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a regional weather update for Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. As a low-pressure area is forming over the East-Central Arabian Sea off the Maharashtra coast and an offshore trough, increased rainfall activity is expected across these regions over the next few days.
Weather Update:
- Low Pressure Area: A low-pressure area has formed in the East-Central Arabian Sea, off the Maharashtra coast, leading to the adverse weather conditions.
- Offshore Trough: This weather system, extending from the Maharashtra coast to the north of Kerala, is affecting the weather patterns in Konkan, the ghats of Pune and Satara, and parts of Gujarat.
- Rainfall Forecast: The IMD forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh over the next 4 to 5 days. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are also expected in isolated regions.
Pune and Konkan Regions on Alert
- Pune City: Rainfall in Pune is likely to increase from August 24 to 26. The weather is expected to remain overcast, with moderate rain (15.5-64.5 mm in 24 hours). A few moderate to intense spells may occur, potentially leading to poor visibility. Isolated heavy rainfall in the city on August 24 and 25 cannot be ruled out.
- Ghats and Konkan Districts: The districts of Konkan and the ghats around Pune and Satara are likely to receive heavy rainfall, leading to an orange alert for the next 3-4 days.
Regional Weather Alerts
- North Konkan and Adjacent Areas: Cloud bands over the west coast from Maharashtra to Gujarat indicate a possibility of enhanced rainfall in these regions within the next 24 hours.
- Marathwada: The region may experience thunderstorms, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
- Vidarbha: Thunderstorms, gusty winds, and moderate rain are expected in isolated parts of Vidarbha.
According to Anupam Kashyapi, Former Head of the Weather Forecasting Division at IMD Pune, and KS Hosalikar, Head of IMD Pune, the rainfall is likely to continue for the next few days in these regions.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay informed of further weather updates and take necessary precautions, particularly in regions under the orange alert.
