A video of chaos near the Sitapur area is making the rounds on the Internet as a result of the large number of pilgrims visiting the Kedarnath Temple in Uttarakhand. The Char Dham Yatra’s offline registration has been suspended until May 31 due to the large number of applicants.

Almost a thousand pilgrims—the majority of whom are on foot—are seen in the now-viral video caught in heavy traffic in the Sitapur area. Vans trapped in a small lane are seen in the video. “Please watch this video if you want to come to Kedarnath,” a man is heard saying. Only Sitapur is included here; Kedarnath is 40 km away. The management is not taking any action to clear the crowd because the place is packed.

An X handle @IndianTechGuide shared the video and stated, “The situation in Kedarnath is not good. Be cautious and make appropriate plans.

With over 2,69,000 views, the video raised questions regarding the pilgrims’ safety. One user commented on the video, calling it “a tragedy waiting to happen.” “Time to set limit of visitors in such places based on the load it can take, else disaster can strike,” said a different user.

A third user commented, “Since things are not going well, plan accordingly and stay safe in Kedarnath.”
As per the official statement of the Uttarakhand government, two Yatra Magistrates, namely Ashok Kumar Pandey and Pankaj Kumar Upadhyay, have been assigned to oversee the crowds at the temples of Badrinath and Kedarnath, respectively, between May 26 and June 6. This information was reported by ANI. They will be in charge of making sure everything is set up so that the Yatra runs smoothly.
