In a heartbreaking incident, a 27-year-old tourist from Pune, Shivani Dable, and her paragliding instructor, Sumal Nepali, lost their lives after their paraglider crashed into a ravine in Keri Plateau, North Goa. The tragic accident occurred on Saturday evening around 5 PM, shortly after the duo took off from a cliff.

Fatal Equipment Failure and Illegal Operations

Initial investigations reveal that the accident happened due to a snapped cable mid-air, causing the paraglider to plummet into the ravine. Shivani, who was holidaying in Goa with friends, had decided to try paragliding for an adventure experience. Unfortunately, the company she chose was operating illegally, as confirmed by local authorities.

The Mandrem police reported that the company lacked the necessary permits and failed to provide safety equipment for its customers. A case has been registered against the company’s owner, Shekhar Raizada, under charges of endangering human life. Further investigations are ongoing under the supervision of Mandrem Police Inspector Sherif Jacques.

Bodies Sent for Post-Mortem

Following the accident, the bodies of Shivani and her instructor were sent to Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim for post-mortem examinations. The tragedy has underscored the urgent need for stricter enforcement of regulations in the adventure tourism sector to prevent such avoidable incidents.
