Vistara Merger: Important Update for Travelers Amidst Emotional Farewells
As Vistara takes its final bow after nearly a decade in Indian skies, it leaves behind a unique legacy of comfort, style, and thoughtful service that truly redefined air travel for many. The journey came to a close on November 11, 2024, with Vistara’s last flight from Delhi to Singapore, a symbolic end to its independent chapter as it merges into Air India. The Vistara merger, backed by Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, represents more than just a corporate shift—it brings together Vistara’s spirit of modern luxury with Air India’s long-standing reputation, blending the best of both worlds.
Vistara made its mark quickly and deeply. Since its launch in 2015, it set itself apart with spacious interiors, attentive service, and its standout three-class setup, featuring a premium economy option that was rare for Indian carriers. For many, Vistara provided a fresh alternative—a blend of elegance and ease that brought a special touch to short- and long-haul flights alike, creating experiences that left a lasting impression.

Though some loyal travelers will miss Vistara’s distinct identity, its essence will live on in Air India’s growing network. For now, Vistara’s aircraft and crew will continue serving familiar routes with the same look and feel, at least until early next year when the rebranding is fully completed.

What Travelers Need to Know
For those with upcoming Vistara flights, here are a few key points to help you navigate the transition:
Flight Codes and Bookings: Starting November 12, 2024, Vistara flights will shift to Air India’s system and flight codes. Look for four-digit Air India flight numbers beginning with “2” to spot flights originally under Vistara (e.g., Vistara’s UK 955 will become AI 2955). Bookings will now go through Air India’s website and app, as Vistara’s own channels and support will no longer be active.
Class of Service and Premium Economy: Many travelers enjoyed Vistara’s premium economy for the extra comfort it provided. While Air India doesn’t offer premium economy on every route, they plan to keep this option on Vistara’s former aircraft where possible.
Loyalty Programs: Vistara’s Club Vistara program will soon merge into Air India’s Maharaja Club. Points will transfer one-to-one, and tier statuses will match up, meaning members keep their benefits and, in some cases, may even see a bump in their tier. Club Vistara points, levels, and vouchers will all move over to the new program.
Service Expectations: Following the Vistara merger, Air India is working to meet the high standards that Vistara customers have come to expect. Training programs are being introduced to ensure that Air India staff can continue providing a premium experience, including handling special assistance requests. While some service elements, like meal options or amenities, may change over time, Air India has promised a smooth, welcoming transition.
