Why it feels warmer than usual in February? Is it the end of winter in Pune and Mumbai? Here’s what the experts say
Pune and Mumbai residents are experiencing an unusually warm February, leading to speculation about the early end of winter. Anurag Kashyapi, former head of the Weather Forecasting Division at IMD Pune, attributes the rising temperatures to successive Western Disturbances (WDs) preventing the entry of northerly winds into west-central India.
While northwestern and northern India are expected to receive wet spells on February 3-4, Pune and Mumbai continue to experience warmer nights due to the presence of easterly and southeasterly winds. These winds, bringing moisture from the Bay of Bengal, are expected to keep night temperatures high until February 10.
With changing weather patterns, the usual winter chill in Maharashtra appears to be fading earlier than expected, raising concerns about climate shifts in the region.
